“In a smaller interior, what you don't do is as important as what you do.”
We get many visitors to our little shop, here in Northwich Cheshire, who ask us why we are called Peggys Cove and where we got the name from. Peggys Cove is a quaint little coastal village in Nova Scotia, Canada which is the inspiration for our business here in the UK. Peggy's Cove is a idyllic place steeped in history and folklore. Famed for its unique picturesque beauty and typically East-Coast profile, its houses are perched along a narrow inlet and on its wave-washed boulders facing the Atlantic and it is one of most popular stops in Nova Scotia. Although still an active lobster fishing community this exceptional place maintains a rustic undeveloped appearance and has been designated a preservation area that inspires so many visitors to return time and again.
Antique furniture is desirable precisely because of its age, rarity and beauty and are objects that show a great degree of skilled craftmanship or a certain attention to a particular design and it is common practice to define an antique as applying to an object that is at least 100 years old.
Vintage pieces are objects which represent a previous era or time in human society which were generally made prior to the onset of mass production whereas Retro items are from a particular period in our recent history and demonstrate a turning point in furniture design which made things fashionable rather than particularly practical.
Here at Peggys Cove we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful and quirky items. From albums to toys, camera equipment to walking sticks and not forgetting those little gems from your past.
In todays economic climate of austerity, when we are constantly being told to tighten our belts and save money. Its nice to know that there are still some places where everyone can go to grab a bargain.
Here at Peggys Cove we continue to source good quality preloved furniture to sell at affordable prices as well as turning old and unwanted pieces into something beautiful and unique.
Shabby Chic is very much in vogue at the moment and we always have a good selection of upcycled and creatively restored furniture available for any home.
